Your Day on the River

People talk about the beautiful Fowey River but it is rarely seen at it’s best by visitors to Cornwall. Now you can travel several miles of the river upstream from Fowey enjoying the fabulous scenery and wildlife from a canoe in a group, accompanied by a guide and a safety boat.
The river valley is surrounded by wooded slopes and water meadows mostly owned by the National Trust, with nature reserves, salt marshes and bird sanctuaries on each side. The whole area is teeming with Heron, Wildfowl, Cormorants and even Kingfishers, and, quietly gliding you can get closer to them than you have ever been.

We land at the picturesque villages of Golant or Lerryn for refreshments and then continue to our destination. Near Fowey we pass the spectacular ocean going ships loading with china clay, but we are well clear of them across the river. It is an extraordinary experience to glide peacefully along enjoying the passing scenery.
There is no need to be fit, young or energetic, or to have ever been in a canoe before. All you need is the spirit of adventure. At Golant or Lerryn you can buy lunch or tea or eat your own picnic. The whole expedition takes about five hours with about two and a half hours on the river divided by a midway break.
